Photo Mirror 6
Archival photograph on rag paper, 17 x 22", 2020
The moment I mirrored this image I saw Water make a face - several faces. The
overall feeling was dismay and warning.
Archival photograph comes with a certificate of authenticity.
As a Water being, I identify with Water as kin, and am joined to every living creature through Water. Yet we continue to pollute and misuse Water, a self-destructive act that demands self-defense. To allow this reveal to occur, I mirror Water and let the many faces of Water speak to our imaginations and unconscious minds, which understand that we are an intimate part of the hydrological cycle. Like Rorschach blots, these images can expand that non-verbal conversation.
I am a painter/photographer born in Seattle, also living in New York City for the past 30 years. I was represented by the Fischbach Gallery with five solo "Waterway" shows until the 2015 closure. As guest curator of the exhibition "The Value of Water" at the Cathedral St. John the Divine in NYC, I learned that art can be a tool of societal change. I began using my work to speak on behalf of water and in 2020, founded Think About Water, a collective of artists who interpret, celebrate and defend Water. We have had two exhiibtions; I curated one.
