Dihedral
Tin-glazed terracotta, 17 x 16.5 x 6.38, 2017, $1250
A dihedral, the interior angle formed when two perpendicular planes intersect, reminds me of crossed trajectories between humans and concepts. This series is centered around flat-shaped figures on two intersecting planes.
I use architectural forms as metaphor for the corporeal or spiritual. I experience a direct correlation between inhabiting the metaphysical space of the body and of being inside the physical structure of architecture. My concern is always how the body feels in relation to the space it is in.
My aesthetic fulcrum is the18th century. I feel at home with the period’s characteristic tension between restraint and exuberance, particularly as it relates to French interiors and Italian architecture.

I cycle between sculpture and painting. I am now exploring maiolica (tin-glazed terracotta), which is allowing me to synthesize color and form.
I am particularly interested in the spatial relationship of the human body to architecture. My fascination with physical and perceptive spaces began while playing in Andrea Palladio's buildings near my childhood home in Italy. It was there I was introduced to maiolica (tin-glazed terracotta) and it resonated deeply with me- the material itself is part of my biography.
My work has been shown in galleries and cultural centers including SAM Gallery, CoCA, Port Angeles Fine Art Center, Spokane Arts Commission Gallery, American Institute of Architects and Tieton. I received a grant from WESTAF and completed the Artist Trust EDGE program.
