Process 2
monotype, salt, bismuth on wood, 11 x 7.5 in, 2016, $150
My work is an exploration of the relationship between the micro and the macro, the fluid space between chance and control, reforming the ‘barriers’ between science and art, and getting lost in the unknown. In my latest series of experiments, I am marking time and thought, and creating planetary bodies that naturally manifest and transform through the chemical, mineral, and metalsmithing processes used in their making.
Ivana Kartzov is a Seattle-based, multidisciplinary artist. Kartzov explores ideas of time, growth, memory, and mark making, while enabling the circumstances to allow unpredictability and chance as significant contributors. She employs printmaking, photography, and sculpture in her work, but utilizes a broad range of materials and methods in her process-based practice.
