Genny Costin

acrylic on canvas, 10x10x1, 2026, $150
Much of Genny Costin's work is based on human psychology and the unconscious mind. Time, memory and the entanglement of both is her primary focus. Her fascination with the idea that our unconscious could potentially dictate up to 80% of a person's day, inspires her to take a more intuitive approach to abstract painting. With each piece, Genny explores themes of time, memory and emotion as constantly overlapping concepts. Each layer she paints represents a specific memory that is mostly covered by another, leaving only a small patch of each reflection, eventually creating a fusion of inseparable moments in time.
Genny Costin lives and works as a painter and private business owner in Seattle, Washington. She studied Art, Art History and English at the University of Washington, but only began painting 5 years ago as part of what she calls her mid-life reckoning. Genny spent the first three of the last 5 years maniacally painting, learning how to do that, and ignoring her day job. In 2024, she began showing her work in a group show called, Keepsakes, as a guest at Shift Gallery in Seattle. Since then, Genny has been given the opportunity to take part in a number of group shows including an exhibition called Rebirth in New York City as well as a show called Chromaflux which traveled through small galleries in London, Paris and Milan.
