Confetti Moon
watercolor, ink, acrylic on paper, 12x9, 2024
The big-picture perspective afforded by my recent investigation of deep geological time and paleobotany encourages me. Supernatural beings and spirits of all ethnicities are welcome in my work as a visual storyteller. I am especially invested in interpreting the myths of matriarchal cultures. The resilience of our lovely Mother Earth, our interbeing with all phenomena - all our beautiful impermanence - is what I paint about.
A life spent under the grindingly grey skies of the Pacific Northwest has gifted me a passion for the eye-candy colors infusing my work. My early training and work as a drafter before the advent of computer software sharpened my knack for rendering fine details in ink. The fusion of watercolor and ink pen has become my native language. Believing that it is art's power and the artist's responsibility to give rise to hope and healing drives me to make work that stimulates imagination and inspires joy.
